History Of Bankview Homes

What began as humble farm land has become one of Calgary’s hottest inner-city neighbourhoods. Originally sold by the Hudson’s Bay Company to William Nimmons, the land we now call Bankview is former ranching land that was owned and operated by Nimmons. He constructed his residence in 1898 and it is still standing today. Other historical homes mark their presence in Bankview, notably four small houses built by a doctor in 1912. It’s unclear as to why he built the houses, but the homes and the mystery remain all the same.

The neighbourhood itself was formally established in 1908, as development began to grow in Calgary’s inner-city. In the 1950s, a major rezoning project saw Bankview open up for more apartment and commercial space.

Bankview today is known as a community-focused area, with great emphasis placed on creating a welcoming, safe are for its residents. The community centre is actively involved in engaging residents through different programs for all ages.
